O Scale MPC Trains
O gauge is defined as 1:48 (0.25 inches to the foot) and the MPC era represents the time period between 1970 and 1986 when Lionel was about the only O gauge train manufacturer. The MPC era title came from Lionel selling its tooling for its then-current product line and licensed the Lionel name to General Mills in 1969, who then operated Lionel as a division of its subsidiary Fundimensions, which included the Model Products Corporation (MPC), who manufactured an extensive line of plastic model kits in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. General Mills moved what was left of the Lionel factory right next door to MPC in Mt. Clemens to take advantage of all of the plastic injection molding capacity and technology that they had available. Although Lionel's tenure with MPC was relatively short, "MPC" is the most commonly used term for the 1970-1986 era.
