Modeled at 1:64 scale, S scale trains run on a two-rail track system with the rails .883 inches apart and are AC powered. S Gauge trains were originally introduced by the A.C. Gilbert Company under the American Flyer brand name in 1946 and then ended in 1966. Lionel acquired their tooling after their bankruptcy in 1967. The S gauge modern era is marked by the reintroduction of S scale trains and accessories by Lionel under the American Flyer name in 1979. American Models entered the S gauge market in 1981, and then S-Helper service followed in 1994. On occasion, Trainz stocks excellent S-Modern trains and accessories from American Flyer, Lionel, American Models, and S-Helper Service.
